It’s Valentine’s day and you need ideas for a laid back date night with the significant other. We got ye covered!
Look no further than our Guide to a Geeky Multi-media Valentine’s Day!
We’ve made it simple. Here are our recommendations for anime, movies, game and TV.
Mike: Here are my Netflix-ready picks and a game to keep your heart rate up!
Anime: Ranma 1/2
This title is a classic. It’s got romance, martial arts, a cast of people that transform into animals (yup you read that right!), and it’s ridiculously funny! At the center of it though is the relationship between Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo. My wife and I both love this series.
Movie: Fifth Element
My first instinct was to say Starship Troopers because who has the will power to NOT watch that whenever it’s on? However, even more appealing is watching The Fifth Element. It’s a sci-fi masterpiece with just enough action and comedy for any geeky couple– just don’t forget your multi-pass!
Game: Rock Band
Ok, we did say laid back– but as a former band person I am drawn to rocking out on this game from time to time. The catalog is diverse enough to cater to both my and my wife’s musical cravings. It even has War Pigs which my daughter loves singing!
TV: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
When I just got out of college, I watched this religiously. If you don’t mind a little– ok correction a LOT of vampire action with your teeny romance but with brilliant writing (thanks Josh Whedon!) look no further than Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Shane: Mine might not be Netflix ready but still worth hunting down!
Anime: Howl’s Moving Castle
My thinking it has to be a Studio Ghilbi movie, something to whisk you away and carry you to another world. My recommendation for this is Howl’s Moving Castle. Escape to a land where anything is possible and where you will never want to leave!
Movie: Two Night Stand
Looking for something to curl up and watch, then look no further than Two Night Stand. Although not inherently geeky, I enjoyed this movie an awful lot. Good humour throughout and something to make you both feel a little closer.
Game: Battleblock Theatre
Something fun and exciting to play together this fine evening would be Battleblock theatre. Hilarious game and sometimes ridiculous, you are sure to both enjoy the experience!
TV: Firefly
Something brief to watch but want you coming back for more (rumour mill is a turning!) Sit down and gorge yourselves on Firefly. A wonderful watch and a cult classic. This is a must at any time of the year!
