Last week, during an investors call, Bob Igor announced that Rian Johnson would be working on a new trilogy for Star Wars that would not follow the Skywalker Legacy. Following that, Kathleen Kennedy released a statement confirming this. The statement reads as follows,
“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
There seems to be two lines of thoughts about this.
- Something new!!
- Oh they are milking this. This is gonna be too far.
Now, wherever you fall on this, I will say, this shows the level of confidence on The Last Jedi. They are giving Rian a full trilogy to start wherever he wants. And that in itself is exciting! More so, for a long time we have been fed these stories that follow the same sets of characters along. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars, and the Skywalker saga. But the idea of a new direction is wonderful! It could be anything at all!
My biggest hope is for a trilogy on Darth Bane. That would be just epic!!
What do you think? Is it going to far? Will we have too much?
