Noteworthy in December

One of the really big releases for the December is the highly sought after Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – the sequel to the successful JRPG on the Wii. The combat system is expected to be even more satisfying than the first and with updated visuals and an equally stunning soundtrack it surely makes it to the must-buy list. The fact that the game is on the Switch making it portable is just icing on the cake!

And although it is not coming out in December officially, I have to mention that the BETA for Monster Hunter starts this month. If ye are unaware of what it is, one way to picture it is Pokemon – only bloodier and with weapons.. and crafting.. and ok.. so its not pokemon at all but here’s a trailer:

Black Friday had VR units like the Oculus ($350), PSVR ($300) and VIVE ($500) on sale in hopes of promoting the platform. This month, to make this push even more significant, here are a few VR games coming out this month:

Skyrim VR (PS4 and VIVE December 1)

Fallout 4 VR (VIVE December 12)

Resident Evil

With all these companies on the cusp of upgraded versions of these devices its actually not a bad time to take advantage of these sales to get a taste of what VR has to offer.

Here are some other games coming out this month:

  • Gear Club (Switch) – December 1
  • Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package (PS4) – December 5
  • Steep – Road to the Olympics (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – December 5
  • Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris – December 5
  • Bravo Team (PSVR) – December 6
  • Loco Roco 2 Remastered (PS4) – December 9
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (Xbox One) – December 12
  • Okami HD (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – December 12
  • Tiny Metal (PS4, Switch, PC) – December 21

There are a ton of movies coming out this month- although weight as a measurement of amount makes just as much sense as using parsecs to measure time…BUT we CAN do that this month because The Last Jedi comes out December 15!

If the theaters are packed and/or you can’t get tix to Star Wars there are several other worthy movies to considering regardless of what genre ye are into.

Jumanji – I thought the original version with Robin Williams was such a fun movie that centered on a board game that mystically brought to life an entire safari into the real world. It was a milestone movie for visual effects at the time and was really a fun watch. This is even more over the top- led by no other than The Rock!

Need yer noggin tickled with some weirdness and mystery? Del Toro brings another fairy tale to the big screen- this time with a monster that looks like Abe from Hellboy!

The past few years we always had some musical adaptation of some play on the big screen. We might not have anything as grand as another Les Mis but we do have Hugh Jackman in the role of PT Barnum in The Greatest Showman

There are also quite a few shows on the small screen that might be worth the watch. Starting with Knightfall on the history channel. The past series Vikings was such a pleasure to watch and we expect Knightfall which is based on the stories about the Knights Templar to be extraordinary.

The Travelers and it’s time hoping cast make a comeback as well with it’s second season.

Coming to Netflix on December 22nd is one of their big, big, big, big (ok you get the picture) investments in the form of Bright. Directed by David Ayer, who brought us movies like End of Watch, Fury and Suicide Squad, with writing credits on all of them also. Bright see’s him working again with Will Smith in this tale of two cops fighting to survive a night. This has a fantastical element to it though, as Joel Edgerton (playing the other cop) is actually an Orc and they are fighting to protect? a magic wand….I know, sounds weird. See what you think for yourselves.
