July blew through pretty fast! It was a pretty busy month with the return of Game of Thrones, the release of games like Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age and the host of movies that, for better or worse, have entertained us with summer blockbuster goodness!

August is a big month for gaming events. The annual Gamescom in Cologne hits mid month and although we aren’t going this year we continue to look forward to the long list of gaming news that usually comes out of it. If you are new to Gamescom and would like a few pointers, check out our survival guide!

So what’s in store for this month?

The Dark Tower

Stephen King’s quasi Arthurian / spaghetti western epic novel comes to the big screen with an equally stellar cast. In the movie we follow Roland Deschain, a gun totting hero trying to save the world from destruction. The movie will be from bits of the 8 novel series which will eventually launch as a TV series and stars Idris Elba  and Matthew McConaughey.  Expect an action packed blockbuster with this one.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

If you are looking for something funny, Hitman’s Bodyguard hits the screens in the first week as well. Picture the worlds top bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) having to protect a world reknowned hitman (Sam Jackson). Insert Whitney Houston song here… and some laughs.. ok a lot of laughs…

Detroit

You probably have already type-cast John Boyega as a sci-fi guy. and his new movie Detroit hope to smash that misconception. The movie is a gun wrenching look at the Detroit Rebellion. The trailer says it all.

ARK: Survival Evolved

In August the long awaited and seemingly in beta-forever game Ark: Survival Evolved finally goes production. And if the title didnt already give it away, the game is a survival game- complete with resource gathering, hunting, crafting and all the fun (read repetitive) things you love and enjoy from your other similar games!

LawBreakers

We’ve played the alpha and a few rounds of Beta and Lawbreakers final comes out as well. The game is a fast paced FPS with jump jets and several roles to choose from- much like quake but with more motion and almost better objective type game play.

Agents of Mayhem

Agents of Mayhem is an open ended action adventure game much like the old DC MMO from a few years back. It promises large scale combat and customizable heroes/villains as well as a huge free roam environment for players to control.

The Defenders

After the disappointing Iron Fist series, Marvel is releasing The Defenders. The show is the culmination of the 4 hero series that came out in the last few years (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist) as they form a super team to combat The Hand. Hopefully the team up lives up to the hype- but either way we will be sure to watch it.

PS + (European + Australia)

The price of the Playstation Plus Subscription is increasing as of August 31st 2017 for the EU and Australia. Sony have yet to make an announcement about the why of the matter but it is happening and there is no way around it…..kinda. If you can, and are willing, you could always stock up on codes now and and save 10 euros a year if you buy the annual subscription. Or you could buy 5 less of the “Share” bags of Doritos a year and live a healthier life! That is what I would do, had I the resolve!

 

There is probably a ton more of stuff coming out this month but hopefully we’ve made your entertainment surfing just a tad easier.
